We have to be honest; many of us love cruises because there is so much food on them!
I personally love to eat and also like to taste different things and new flavors, so cruises are the perfect place.
Over the years, however, I have learned that it is easy to exaggerate and gain too much weight during a single trip.
What did I do then? I started implementing some behaviors that helped me not to gain too much weight during a cruise.
I want to share 7 of them with you, hoping they will be useful!
Consider the stairs
I don’t know if you have noticed, but the stairs on the cruise seem to be invisible.
No one uses them and everyone takes elevators even to move only 1 or 2 floors up or down.
To avoid gaining too much weight, you could start using the stairs more often. Consider that it will take you the same amount of time since the wait for elevators sometimes can be really long.
Walk as much as you can
Visits to cities are the other occasions when you can do some exercise to avoid gaining too much weight.
You will be surprised to hear this but many ports of call, especially smaller ones, can be visited completely on foot.
When I got off the ship, I saw many people immediately taking the bus or cab. Check the distance on Google Maps and if it is not too far you can just walk. You will save money, discover more hidden places in the city, and do some healthy exercise.
Eat more healthy food
Contrary to what you may think, cruises are also perfect for eating healthy food.
At the buffet, you will almost always find a salad station with plenty of ingredients to make your favorite one.
You will also find lots of different vegetables cooked in many ways…avoid eating the usual junk food all the time, I can assure you that you will discover many new flavors that you will enjoy.
Visit the gym
You probably know of its presence but have never been there.
On all cruise ships of Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and MSC there’s a gym. Obviously the bigger the ship, the more equipment it will have.
I know you are on vacation, I also don’t like going to the gym very much, but I assure you that some of them have a stunning view of the sea. Even just 30 minutes a day can make a difference.
Watch what you drink
Do you always pay attention to what you drink? On a cruise, especially with unlimited drink packages, it is very easy to drink more than you should.
The thing that not everyone knows is that many drinks can have a lot of calories and therefore should be limited, especially if they are very sweet.
For example, a 4.5 fl oz piña colada has about 245 Calories which is about the same as a slice of Domino’s pizza.
Use the running track
Many cruise ships also have a beautiful running track.
Even if you don’t usually do this kind of activity, I recommend that you try it on a cruise.
These tracks go around the ship and give you great views from all sides of it.
Especially if you go walking in the early morning or evening hours, you can exercise while seeing beautiful sunrises or sunsets.
Join the activities
The ship’s entertainment team often organizes activities by the pool or in the ship’s lounges.
For example, there may be dance classes, fitness and yoga sessions, or water aerobics.
You can join these activities to have fun and to work off what you may have eaten during the day.
