mistakes on a cruise

Nowadays, most people are used to sharing their whole lives on social media.

Posts, stories, and pictures are repeatedly shared daily to engage with followers and friends.

However, there are some downsides to this habit. This was learned, firsthand, by an American woman who lost more than $10,000 just from sharing too much information online.

But how was this possible? Let’s see what happened!

The mistake she made

The woman had booked a presidential suite on a Carnival Cruise Line ship.

Obviously, that is the most expensive cabin that can be found on this type of ship, and the price was about $10,000.

Caught up in the excitement, the woman shared the booking confirmation on her social networks, and this was the biggest mistake she could have made.

Through the reservation number and her first and last name, someone got into the reservation system and canceled the cruise.

When did she find out and what happened next?

The woman found this out only a few days before her departure when she received an email saying that her excursions had been canceled.

She became suspicious and called the company’s customer service.

At first, it was thought to be an error in the system, but only later it was realized that a malicious person had made the cancellation.

At that point, since the cruise was very close to departure, Carnival could no longer offer her that cabin but offered her two interior cabins as replacements.

Obviously, this solution was not satisfactory, and the passenger asked for a full refund.

Carnival initially denied the refund, saying that the blame for the incident had nothing to do with the carrier.

Only after the woman made a video complaint on social media and drew a lot of attention to the story, the cruise line decided to give her a full refund.

What can we learn from this story?

We can learn something very important from this story, especially for cruise travel.

You should never share your reservation information on social media, especially your confirmation number, which is personal and gives you access to all your cruise data.

If you make such a mistake and you notice it, notify the cruise line immediately. They may provide you with a new reservation number and block the previous one.
