This is one of the news I never wanted to give you, but unfortunately, it has been confirmed that a 12-year-old boy has died after falling from a balcony on Harmony of the Seas.
The ship by Royal Caribbean was sailing to Galveston, and it was the end of the week-long cruise for the passengers on board.
The circumstances of the accident
According to initial reports, the boy fell from a balcony overlooking the inner part of the ship.
If you are familiar with the design of the ship, the boy fell from the cabins that directly overlook Central Park.
According to some passengers, a group of children were playing just before the incident, and he may have tried to enter his room by climbing over the balcony.
Staff and doctors on the ship immediately rendered aid but there was nothing they could do for him.
Royal Caribbean spokesperson told PEOPLE:
We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our guests. Our Care Team is providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time. For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share.
What happens when a person falls off a cruise ship?
Unfortunately in this case the fall was in the inner part of the ship, but it is also very risky when one falls into the ocean.
That is why I always tell you to be very careful and not to climb on the balconies, even as a joke or for fun.
I explained in more detail why it’s dangerous in the article on what happens if you jump off a cruise ship. Take a look at it before you go on a cruise to understand how it works.
In addition, always check the 10 things you must never do in a cruise cabin.
