Hello cruise lovers! Unfortunately, we have some concerning news today as we discuss the case of a cabin steward who placed hidden cameras inside cabins.

The person involved is a 34-year-old Filipino man who worked on board Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas.

He was arrested on March 3, 2024, and he’s being detained while waiting for his trial.

Why was he arrested?

According to the first reconstruction, the man allegedly placed a hidden camera in the cabins that were assigned to him for cleaning.

He would activate it and move it based on the passengers he wanted to record.

The man had been hired in December 2023 and had taken service on the Symphony of the Seas, which makes a southern Caribbean itinerary departing from Fort Lauderdale.

These illegal conducts were discovered by a woman who noticed a strange small object under the sink in the bathroom of her cabin.

The woman alerted ship security who immediately suspected that the culprit might be the cabin steward. Also because, along with the passengers, he was the only one who could have had access to the room.

When the man was questioned, he confessed everything and was detained until the ship arrived at the port.

Royal Caribbean statement

Once at the port the man was disembarked and turned over to the authorities.

Regarding the matter Royal Caribbean stated:

We have zero tolerance for this unacceptable behavior. We immediately reported this to law enforcement and terminated the crew member, and we will continue to fully cooperate with authorities.

The man’s cell phone, a video camera, an SD card, and a USB flash drive were confiscated. They will soon be analyzed to find out the amount and extent of recorded material.

Meanwhile, the man is in jail and faces sentencing on seven counts.
