10 Big Changes Coming to Royal Caribbean in 2027

Royal Caribbean ship

If you’ve been looking at Royal Caribbean cruises for 2027, you’ve probably noticed there’s quite a bit to keep up with.

A new ship is coming. There are new beach destinations on the way, familiar ships are moving around, and even the evening entertainment is getting something a little unexpected.

Personally, I like the big ship announcements. Of course I do. But a different departure port or a new place to spend the day can be just as good a reason to book.

Here are ten changes worth knowing about before you choose your next Royal Caribbean cruise.

1. Hero of the Seas Will Join the Fleet

The biggest headline is Hero of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s fourth Icon Class ship, scheduled to arrive in Miami in August 2027.

It will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises, with a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay on every sailing

If you like choosing a cruise partly for the ship itself, this is probably the announcement you’ll be watching most closely.

I’d still compare the fare with other ships before getting carried away. Being brand new is exciting, but the right cruise also has to make sense for your budget.

2. The Pool Deck Is Getting Another Upgrade

On Hero, Royal Caribbean is planning nine pools, including a new pool called Coconut Cove.

The adults-only Hideaway will have two pools, while Swim & Tonic is being expanded.

There will also be new family raft slides at Category 6, including a funnel raft slide.

That’s a pretty big mix of places to cool off, whether your idea of a good afternoon involves a drink in the water or being tipped around in a raft.

What I’m curious about is how these spaces actually feel on a busy sea day.

Pool numbers look impressive on paper. Finding a spot where you’re happy to spend a couple of hours is what matters once you’re there.

3. A New Supper Club and Cooking Classes Are Coming

Hero’s dining lineup will include Orleans Parish Supper Club, with live jazz and a menu inspired by Cajun and Creole cooking.

Royal Caribbean is also introducing family cooking classes in a new venue, alongside the ship’s Royal Railway dining experience and new food hall options.

I like the idea of having something to do together that doesn’t involve another slide or sports competition. A cooking class could be a fun change of pace, especially halfway through the week.

And the supper club sounds like a proper evening out.

Before planning your entire cruise around the restaurants, though, check which experiences are included and which require a separate reservation or payment.

4. The SpongeBob Musical Is Heading to Sea

Royal Caribbean has announced that The SpongeBob Musical will be the headlining theater production on Hero of the Seas when it launches in August 2027.

The show is inspired by the Broadway musical and will bring SpongeBob and the rest of Bikini Bottom to the ship’s Royal Theater.

I can see this being one of those announcements that divides people straight away. Some will love it. Others will wonder why a cartoon character is taking over their evening entertainment.

But I wouldn’t judge it only by the name. The staging, cast and music can make a huge difference, and I’m curious to see how Royal Caribbean puts it together.

5. Royal Beach Club Lelepa Will Open in Vanuatu

For cruisers sailing from Australia, this is a big one.

Royal Beach Club Lelepa is scheduled to open in October 2027, giving Royal Caribbean its first exclusive cruise destination in the South Pacific.

The plans include two beaches, an adults-only retreat, a nature trail and places to eat. Admission and island food will be included in the cruise fare, along with basics such as loungers, umbrellas and towels.

That included access is something I’d pay attention to when comparing holidays.

There’s a lot to like about arriving somewhere and having the beach-day essentials sorted already.

You can get off the ship, find your spot and settle in, without spending the first hour deciding where to go.

6. Santorini Is Getting a Royal Caribbean Beach Club

Ships in Santorini

Royal Caribbean’s new Santorini beach club is part of its plans for summer 2027.

The proposed Ultimate Santorini Day combines time in Oia and Fira with access to the beach club, where plans include beach facilities, cabanas and local food.

I’d want to look closely at the schedule before booking. Santorini is somewhere you can easily spend longer exploring than you intended, especially if you keep stopping for photos.

Having enough time for both sightseeing and the beach would be the deciding factor for me.

7. Legend of the Seas Will Return to the Mediterranean

Legend of the Seas launches in 2026, so it won’t be a brand-new ship in 2027. But it will return to Europe for another summer, sailing seven-night Western Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Rome.

That gives passengers another season to try an Icon Class ship in the Mediterranean.

I like having that choice, although I’d think about how much time I wanted onboard.

A ship packed with things to do and an itinerary packed with places to explore can make for some very busy days.

If you’re planning to get off at every stop, have a look at the things you should always bring on a cruise excursion. A little preparation makes those long sightseeing days much easier.

8. Mariner of the Seas Will Make Its Southampton Debut

Mariner of the Seas

Mariner of the Seas is scheduled to sail from Southampton for the first time in 2027, with cruises ranging from two to nine nights.

The announced options include Norwegian fjords and European city visits.

For UK passengers, a departure closer to home could make Mariner worth another look.

If you’re considering a fjords sailing, it’s also worth thinking about whether a balcony cabin is worth the extra money. That’s one itinerary where the views can make the upgrade especially tempting.

And a shorter sailing is a useful way to try a ship before committing to a full week. Sometimes a few nights away is exactly enough.

9. Mariner Will Also Move to New Orleans

Later in the year, Mariner is scheduled to head to New Orleans, beginning its season there in November 2027.

The announced cruises range from six to nine nights and visit Western Caribbean destinations such as Belize City, Roatan and Cozumel.

This is the sort of change that can slip past you if you only follow new ship news. But if New Orleans is a convenient departure port, it could have much more influence on your booking than a new pool somewhere else.

It also opens up a tempting combination: a few days in the city, then a cruise. I’d definitely allow some time before embarkation instead of rushing straight from the airport to the ship.

That’s also the golden rule before every cruise I wish more passengers would follow. Don’t forget it!

10. Oasis of the Seas Will Offer Short Cruises From Fort Lauderdale

Oasis of the Seas

Starting in November 2027, Oasis of the Seas is scheduled to sail three- and four-night cruises from Fort Lauderdale, visiting CocoCay and Nassau.

That’s an interesting option if you want a big ship experience without taking a whole week off.

The catch, for me, is time. A short cruise on a ship like Oasis would mean choosing a few priorities and accepting that some things would have to wait for another trip.

Getting organized early helps, so I’d take a look at these things you should do on the first day of your cruise before boarding.

And with CocoCay on the itinerary, keep these cruise private island mistakes in mind when planning your beach day.
