As I always tell you, you must never risk being late for the cruise departure time.
This is something that a family who was on vacation recently had firsthand experience with.
However, this time, not everyone was left behind. According to the reconstruction, the two parents were left behind while their teenager departed with the ship. How could such a thing happen?
The strange behavior of these parents
Basically, the family was off the ship and visiting the city. The parents were busy with some shopping when their son realized that the departure time was approaching.
The boy, who had just turned 18 and had received the cruise as a gift, alerted his parents who told him that they knew what they were doing.
After that, the boy decided to start walking toward the ship and told his parents to reach him as soon as possible.
What happened when they arrived at the port?
As the teenager had imagined, the parents did not arrive on time; in fact, they arrived 45 minutes late.
The even more disconcerting thing is that, after discovering what had happened, the parents sent angry messages to him asking why he didn’t make the ship wait.
This shows us that not everyone is clear about the rules of cruises.
No ship, from any cruise company, waits beyond the scheduled departure time. For this reason, I recommend arriving at least an hour earlier than the time given by the cruise line (which usually already includes a slight tolerance).
Bear in mind that some ports are quite large and even if you arrive at the port you still have to go to the boarding area and go through security checks.
What can be done in these cases?
The only thing you can do in this case is to take a plane and go immediately to the next port.
This is exactly what these two passengers did, but they had to pay a very high airfare (which is not refunded by the cruise line since it was not their mistake).
So passengers can resume the cruise from the next port, but the travel costs are still at their expense.
