Disney Cruise Line is finally coming back to New York City, and honestly, this is the kind of cruise news many East Coast families have been waiting for.
Disney has confirmed that a Disney Cruise will sail from New York in fall 2027, marking the cruise line’s first return to the city since 2023.
It will also be the first time New Yorkers get to sail aboard it without having to fly down to Florida.
And yes, seeing those famous red funnels against the Manhattan skyline is going to be pretty special.
Seven Disney Cruises Will Depart From New York
The ship will be Disney Wish, and it’s scheduled to arrive in New York in late September 2027, shortly after completing its first European season and a transatlantic crossing from Southampton.
Once in the city, the ship will offer seven special cruises lasting between four and seven nights.
Destinations will include Bermuda, Canada, and New England.
Five of the seven sailings will visit Bermuda, while the others will focus more heavily on the fall scenery and coastal cities of Canada and New England.
Here are the currently announced sailings:
- September 29, 2027: Four-night cruise to Bermuda
- October 3, 2027: Five-night Canada and New England cruise visiting Saint John and Boston
- October 8, 2027: Six-night Bermuda and Canada cruise visiting Bermuda and Halifax
- October 14, 2027: Five-night cruise to Bermuda with an extended stay
- October 19, 2027: Five-night cruise to Bermuda with an extended stay
- October 24, 2027: Seven-night Canada cruise visiting Charlottetown, Sydney, and Halifax
- October 31, 2027: Five-night one-way cruise from New York to San Juan with a stop in Bermuda
Most of these cruises will also be part of Disney’s Halloween on the High Seas season, which makes the timing even better.
Expect themed decorations, character costumes, Halloween activities, and plenty of not-so-scary fun around the ship.
The Disney Wish Is a Big Upgrade for New York
The most exciting part, at least for me, is the ship Disney has chosen.
This will not be one of the older Disney ships making a quick seasonal appearance. New York is getting the Disney Wish, one of the line’s newer Wish-class ships.
The Wish is very different from the classic Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.
It feels brighter, more modern, and in some areas much more like a floating Disney resort.
There is a beautiful Grand Hall inspired by Cinderella, the AquaMouse water attraction, themed family restaurants, Broadway-style entertainment, and several spaces created just for adults.
Dining is one of the ship’s biggest talking points. Guests rotate between three main restaurants while keeping the same serving team throughout the cruise.
These include Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure, Worlds of Marvel, and 1923, an elegant restaurant inspired by the early history of Walt Disney Animation Studios.
There are plenty of Disney characters onboard, obviously, but it’s not Disney overload every second of the day.
Adults can escape to quieter bars, lounges, specialty restaurants, and adults-only deck areas. That balance is something Disney usually does quite well.
Sailing From Manhattan Changes Everything
For people living in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and other nearby states, this announcement is a big deal.
Cruising from Florida often means paying for flights, booking a hotel for the night before the cruise, arranging airport transfers, and adding at least one extra travel day.
When you are traveling with children, the logistics get tiring before you even step onboard.
With these New York departures, many families will be able to drive or take a train directly into the city. You could leave home in the morning and be eating lunch aboard the Disney Wish a few hours later. That is hard to beat.
Sailing away from New York is also an experience in itself. The views of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and the harbor are fantastic, especially if the weather cooperates.
I have always thought New York has one of the most memorable sailaways in the world.
Just remember that late September and October can be cooler and windier than a typical Florida departure.
The first day at sea may not be pool weather, and the Atlantic can occasionally be a little rough. Pack layers and bring something warmer than you think you will need.

Bermuda or Canada: Which Cruise Is Better?
The Bermuda sailings will probably be the most popular, particularly for families wanting warmer weather and beach time.
Bermuda is easy to explore, clean, and generally very comfortable for cruise passengers.
The pink-sand beaches are genuinely beautiful, and the itineraries with extra time in port give you a chance to see more than the area immediately around the ship.
The Canada and New England cruises have a completely different atmosphere.
These are more about coastal scenery, historic towns, local food, and autumn colors.
You probably will not spend much time in a swimsuit, but sailing during fall can be gorgeous.
There is also something slightly unusual about combining Disney’s Halloween celebrations with places like Halifax, Charlottetown, and Saint John.
Personally, the six-night itinerary visiting both Bermuda and Halifax may be the most interesting of the bunch. You get two very different destinations in one trip, plus enough time to properly enjoy the ship.
The seven-night Canadian itinerary is another strong choice, especially for cruisers who have already visited Bermuda or want something less beach-focused.

These Cruises Probably Won’t Be Cheap
Let’s be realistic. Disney cruises are rarely inexpensive, and limited seasonal sailings from New York are likely to attract a lot of attention.
There are only seven departures, and they will be using one of Disney’s most in-demand ships.
Add the convenience of avoiding flights for millions of people in the Northeast, and I wouldn’t expect many last-minute bargains.
Disney Cruise Line will open reservations in phases for Castaway Club members and other eligible guests beginning August 31, 2026. General bookings are scheduled to open on September 8, 2026.
If you are seriously considering one of these cruises, it may be worth booking early. Disney prices often rise as cabins fill, particularly on unusual itineraries with a small number of departure dates.
