There’s plenty of news about cruises, especially about upcoming innovations and new ships.
But there’s also one very old cruise ship that people still constantly talk about today. Of course, we’re talking about the Titanic.
The idea of a new ship recreating the most famous ocean voyage in history sounds almost unreal, but the project has once again been brought back into the spotlight.
Australian billionaire Clive Palmer and Blue Star Line have revived plans for Titanic II, a modern replica inspired by the original RMS Titanic, with the proposed maiden voyage planned for June 2027.
The route would follow the legendary Southampton to New York crossing, the same journey the original Titanic began in April 1912.
A Modern Ship With A Very Familiar Name

Titanic II is not just another new cruise ship with a very famous name slapped on the side.
The whole idea is to recreate the look and atmosphere of the original Titanic, while still meeting modern safety standards.
Blue Star Line has described the project as a way to bring the “dream of Titanic II” back to life after years of delays.
The ship is expected to include many design elements that immediately remind people of the original vessel.
Think grand staircases, period style interiors, classic lounges, old world dining spaces, and that unmistakable early 1900s ocean liner feeling.
Basically, it is meant to feel like stepping back in time. But not all the way back in time, thankfully.
The Voyage Would Recreate The Original 1912 Route

The biggest attention grabber is the itinerary.
Titanic II is planned to sail from Southampton, England, to New York City, recreating the same transatlantic crossing that made the original Titanic world famous.
The 1912 voyage was supposed to be a glamorous journey across the Atlantic, filled with wealthy passengers, immigrants hoping for a new life, and all the excitement of what was then considered one of the most advanced ships ever built.
Of course, history went a very different way.
The original RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912, during its maiden voyage.
More than 1,500 passengers and crew died in the disaster, making it one of the most remembered maritime tragedies ever.
That is why this new voyage will feel very different from a normal cruise announcement. It is not just about ports, cabins, dining rooms, or pools. It carries a huge amount of emotion with it.
What The Ship Is Expected To Look Like
From the outside, Titanic II is planned to closely resemble the original Titanic.
The design includes the classic profile, the famous funnels, and the elegant ocean liner shape that people instantly recognize.
Inside, the goal is to bring back the atmosphere of the original ship as much as possible.
Plans and reports have mentioned features such as a ballroom, swimming pool, Turkish baths, and recreated period interiors.
That is honestly the part that will fascinate a lot of cruise lovers.
Modern cruise ships are usually floating resorts now. They have waterparks, robot bars, go-karts, giant LED screens, Broadway shows, skydiving simulators, and sometimes so much going on that it barely feels like being at sea anymore.
Titanic II would be something completely different. More classic. More theatrical. More about the romance of ocean travel.
Not necessarily better than a mega ship, just totally different.
It Has Been Delayed Before
Now, this is the part worth knowing.
Titanic II is not a brand-new idea. The project was first announced years ago, and the planned launch date has shifted multiple times.
Earlier versions of the project were delayed, and recent reporting has also noted that a shipyard had not yet been secured at the time Palmer relaunched the plan in 2024.
So while the current plan points to 2027, cruise fans should keep an eye on official updates.
Big cruise ships are not built overnight. Especially not one trying to recreate the most famous ship in history.
Still, the fact that the project is being talked about again has already created massive curiosity. And honestly, that is not surprising at all.
Would You Get A True 1912 Experience?
The idea is not just to build a ship that looks like the Titanic from the outside.
The project has also been described as an attempt to create an authentic Titanic-style experience.
With the onboard crew fully playing the part and an atmosphere that truly takes guests back in time, with historic menus and music from that era.
If Titanic II really does sail in 2027, it will probably become one of the most-watched passenger ship departures in modern history.
There will be cameras everywhere. News crews. Cruise fans. Titanic historians. Curious travelers. Probably a lot of people standing at the port just to say they saw it leave.
2 Things That Will Be Different From The Original Titanic

1. Titanic II Will Have Modern Safety Systems
This is the most important difference by far.
The original Titanic didn’t have enough lifeboats for everyone onboard, which became one of the most haunting details of the disaster.
Titanic II would need to meet modern maritime safety rules, meaning updated evacuation systems, modern lifeboats, navigation technology, and current safety procedures.
So even though the ship may look old-fashioned, the safety side will not be stuck in 1912. And that is definitely a good thing.
2. The Ship Will Use Modern Propulsion, Not Coal-Fired Steam Power
The original Titanic was powered by coal-fired boilers and steam engines.
That meant huge boiler rooms, stokers shoveling coal, and a totally different kind of ship operation.
Titanic II is expected to use a modern diesel-electric propulsion system instead.
Reports on the design have also mentioned modern thrusters and updated marine engineering features.
So yes, the ship may have the classic look, but underneath, it will be a very modern cruise ship.
