Mein Schiff 5

We read a lot of strange news about cruising, but the one we are going to look at today is really incredible.

As I often tell you, being banned or kicked off a cruise ship is not as difficult as you may think.

It actually happens quite frequently, and that is what a German couple who were on a Caribbean cruise unfortunately had to deal with.

But what did they do that was so bizarre that they were kicked off and left stranded in Barbados?

The Strange Story

According to reports, they were on vacation on Mein Schiff 5, a ship of the German cruise line TUI.

The couple was in their cabin, and let’s just say they were having a very passionate moment, so passionate that it disturbed the peace of the guests in the neighboring cabins.

Later in the night, the manager, accompanied by a security guard, knocked on their door, and they were told that they had to leave the ship at the first available port.

The Couple’s Version

Now, there is a whole dispute between the German couple and the cruise line.

They claim it was unfair and say they forgot to close the balcony door, which is where the noise must have come from.

In addition, they say there was a brief argument afterward but that it was by no means violent or anything that would warrant a ban from the ship.

They then demanded compensation from the cruise line and coverage of the travel expenses they faced to return home.

The couple mentioned that they had booked the cruise back in January, spending over $6,400. In addition, they shelled out around $1,100 for three nights in Barbados, more than $2,100 for flights to Paris, and another $150 for a one-night stay in the city before heading back by train to Frankfurt.

What Does the Cruise Line Say Instead?

The cruise line chose to remain much more vague and said the couple was asked to leave the ship for a “security-related incident” and that they don’t want to comment on any details in order to protect the personality rights of the guest.

As is the case with all cruise lines, they added that in such situations, the cost of the return journey is the responsibility of the passengers.

Now, with such conflicting information, it’s hard to make a judgment.
Passengers should definitely keep the noise down (especially at night) out of respect for everyone else on board.

However, in my opinion, it would have been more appropriate to give the couple a warning before banning them from the ship.

I don’t know what you think, but I recommend you read the article on the 7 reasons why you can get banned from a cruise. Be careful to avoid situations like this because a ban is often for life!
